Dangers of fleas:

The most common issue with fleas is flea bite dermatitis which is a specific allergy to flea saliva.  This leads to intense itching and scratching which can cause open wounds that form scabs which can get infected.    Unfortunately the risk is not just limited to external problems for your pet.   Pets are also at risk for internal complications from flea bite infestations.  The most common internal complication caused by fleas is tapeworms.   These parasites are passed to your pet when they ingest the flea.   The tapeworms can cause weight loss and an itchy anus.   Luckily they are easily treated.

Dangers of ticks:

The disease most people are familiar with is called Lyme disease which can cause arthritis and swelling in your pets joints.  Although rare, ticks can also cause a deficiency called anaemia if they consume enough of our pet’s blood.
